Dental implants can be used to replace one or all of a patient's teeth. The Atlanta Dental Group PC provides both dental implant surgery and restoration services. The surgery is performed by Dr. Mark Allan Padolsky who has been extensively trained in this area and who has been doing implants since 1987.
During surgery, dental implants are screwed into a special sites prepared in the bone. This is done using local anesthesia and takes about a half hour to an hour per dental implant. Precise holes, called an osteotomies, are prepared in the areas of the mouth where there is adequate bone to support each implant. Each osteomy exactly matches the implant that is screwed all the way into the prepared space. The surgical site is then covered with gum tissue so that the implant can integrate quietly with the surrounding bone. Our dentist atlanta prefers to wait six months before restoring dental implants to allow growth of the bone onto the surface.
Patients visit our office to look good and to be able to easily chew their food, not just to have a dental implants placed into their bone. This is why the final restoration plan is extremely important. After the surgical placement, it takes six to twelve months for a patient's bone to grow onto and around the surface of the implant. At the end of this period, the top of the head is exposed and a post placed into it. An impression is taken of this post and then a crown or bridge is constructed at the dental laboratory. The final restoration is then placed the same way that a normal restoration is done.
Unfortunately, the placement of dental implants is not covered by most insurance companies so the Atlanta Dental Group PC has established contacts with several finance companies so that their patients desiring these procedures can have needed care.
