atlanta impacted teeth

Impacted teeth are inside the jaw bone or gums. Because impacted teeth are not easily accessible, impacted teeth are difficult to remove and not all dentists are comfortable removing impacted teeth for this reason.

There is controversy as to whether impacted teeth can move all the teeth in front of them. Some dentists believe that impacted teeth are the reason for crowding of the teeth in the front of the mouth where you smile. Many orthodontists insist upon the removal of impacted teeth to be sure that their patients keep their nice smile. So it seems like a good idea to remove impacted teeth whenever there is concerned about the stability of your smile.

The Atlanta Dental Group, PC services include the removal of impacted teeth in addition to most routine oral surgery procedures. Most impacted teeth procedures take less than a half hour and can easily be completed using local anaesthesia. This avoids the additional expense and risk of general anaesthesia.

Our dentists recommend that patients remove impacted teeth one side at a time. This allows a patient to chew on the other side. The patient heals quicker and feels better during the recovery period after the removal of impacted teeth if this is done. Most patients that have impacted teeth removed on Thursday are back at work on Monday.

With local anaesthesia a patient having impacted teeth removed does not need someone else to come to the impacted teeth surgery visit because the patient was not drugged.

Our philosophy with removing impacted teeth is to reduce the amount of trauma associated to a minimum. Part of this is accomplished by reducing the incisions used to expose impacted teeth to the smallest length possible. Because much of the blood going to the bone around impacted teeth is supplied by the gums, we try our best not to pull much of the gums off of the bone. This reduces swelling and assists healing.
