bonding

Bonding is a technique that allows a dentist to bond tooth colored material to the surface of a tooth. This bonded material can be used to reshape a tooth, give it a more natural color and to cover up stains. In can be used to reshape teeth, closed unwanted gaps,
lengthen short teeth, cover white stains, whiten teeth, connect several teeth together and more.

Many dental bonding procedures can be done without anaesthesia. It was invented in the late 1970s and involves etching a tooth with phosphoric acid to create microscopic pores all over the etched surfaces. A liquid plastic is brushed into these pores and the plastic is hardened using a dental curing light. Regular white filling material can then attach to the tooth.

Bonding is truly a modern dental miracle because prior to its invention holes had to be drilled into a tooth to hold a filling onto the surface of a tooth. Worse yet, prior to this technique the only way to change the surface of a tooth was to grind most of a tooth away to make a dental crown.
