dental bridge

A dental bridge replaces a missing tooth. After tooth removal the rest of the teeth can shift out of place and a bridge helps prevent this from happening. It usually covers two teeth, one tooth in front of the missing tooth and one tooth behind the missing tooth. These two teeth are prepared by reducing them in miniature and dental crowns are made to cover each of these two teeth. The teeth that hold the bridge are called abutment teeth. A false crown, called a pontic, is next permanently attached to the two crowns. Instead of choosing this restoration, consider using a dental implant to replace the missing tooth. This is a good idea if the teeth next to the missing tooth are virgin teeth and if there is adequate bone for an implant.

A dental bridge is usually made out of metal or a combination of metal and porcelain. The metal can be carefully covered so that it looks natural as if you never had a tooth removed. A well planned restoration should be cosmetically pleasing and strong enough to support the forces of chewing.

A dental bridge usually lasts severn to ten years but most insurance companies pay every five years. With good oral hygiene, it can last for decades. Saving your natural teeth is always the best thing to do. The restoration is one of the most expensive dental procedures offered. We can help you financial plan, or obtain a dental loan, so that you can have your needed dental care done with the smile you deserve.

The dentists at the Atlanta Dental Group PC are dedicated to their patients' good health and well being. They have done thousands of dental restorations for patients and you are welcome to join our family of patients.
