Dental implants can replace one or all of a patient's teeth. The Atlanta Dental Group PC provides both the dental implant surgery and restoration restoration services. The surgery is performed by Dr. Mark Allan Padolsky. During surgery the implant is screwed into a special site prepared in the bone. This is done using local anesthesia and takes about a half hour to an hour. Precise holes, called osteotomies, are prepared where there is adequate bone. An implant that exactly matches each osteotomy is screwed into the prepared spaces. It's covered with gum tissue and integrates quietly with the surrounding bone.
Unfortunately, most dental insurance companies do not cover dental implants so the Atlanta Dental Group PC has established relationships with several finance companies so many of our patients who desire these procedures can get their needed care. Another type of implant are subperiosteals which sit on top of the jaw bone. They do not require a lot of bone because this type of implant does not go into the bone. Placing subperiosteals takes two surgery appointments, one to take the impression of the bone and the second to place the subperiosteal on the bone.
Patients visit our office to look good and to be able to easily chew their food, not to have dental implants placed in their bone. This is why the restoration is extremely important. After the surgical placement we wait 6 to 12 months for the bone to grow onto and around their new implants. This implant recuperation period is essential. At the end of this time the tops are exposed and a post placed into them. An impression is taken of this post and then a crown or bridge is constructed at a dental laboratory. The final restorations are then placed on the posts the same way that normal dental restorations are done.
Dr. Mark A. Padolsky is the senior Atlanta implant dentist at our dental implant center. He is able to design, create, and place the crown and bridge work or dental implant dentures that go on top. This allows for one dentist to be in control of both phases of the implant reconstruction and often simplifies the decision making process. Patients can enjoy going to one office for all their care.
