Jaw Implant

information from the  Atlanta Dental Group PC

Jaw implants can be used to replace a mising teeth. The Atlanta Dental Group PC provides both placement surgery and restoration services . The surgical placement is performed by Dr. Mark A. Padolsky who has been placing dental implants since 1987. During the dental implant surgery the dental implants are screwed into special sites prepared in the bone. This is done using local anesthesia and takes about a half hour per site. Precise holes, called an osteotomies, are prepared in the areas of the mouth where there is adequate bone. Dental implants that exactly match the osteotomies are next screwed all the way into the prepared spaces. They are next covered with gum tissue so that they can integrate quietly with the surrounding bone.

Patients visit our office to look good and to be able to easily chew their food, not to have a jaw implants placed in their bone. This is why the restoration is extremely important. There are many restoration choices depending on the patient's desires, available bone and of course, financial limitations. Before proceeding with any implant tooth procedure, it is very important for patients to know all of their treatment options so as to make the very best treatment choice.

After the surgical placement there is a waiting period of six to twelve months for the patient's bone to grow onto and around the jaw implants. At the end of this period the tops are exposed and posts placed into them. An impression is taken of the posts and then a crown or bridge is constructed at the dental laboratory. The final restoration is then placed the same way that a normal restoration is done.

A subperiosteal sits on top of the jaw bone. The "sub" does not require a lot of bone because it does not go into the bone. Placing a subperiosteal takes two surgery appointments, one to take the impression of the bone and the second to place the subperiosteal on the bone. Unfortunately, most insurance companies do not cover the placement of jaw implants so the Atlanta Dental Group PC has established contacts with several finance companies so that patients can get their needed care. If you are seriously interested in dental implants, you should consider having a free dental implant consultation at the Atlanta Dental Group PC. Call 404-874-7428 to schedule your appointment.
