Abscess Tooth Treatment

abscess tooth treatment

Abscess tooth treatment involves removing the cause of the dental problem. Almost always there is a dead tooth that can not fight the dental infection around its roots. The dead and dying tissues inside the tooth feed the bacteria and irritate the surrounding tissues. This dead tissue must be removed by doing a root canal or have a dental extraction performed.

Placing a patient on a dental antibiotic is only a temporary abscess tooth treatment because this does not remove the source of the tooth infection. However, many ignorant patients do not return to the dental office after the antibiotics reduce the swelling and dental pain. The abscess then returns later and is often much more serious.
