It is important to keep a few things
in mind after a root
canal. The dental pain you felt before the root canal treatment is often echoed afterwards. The worse
the root
canal pain was
before, the more likely it is for there to be pain afterward.
This is not to say that there will always be pain afterwards,
or that it will be bad if there is, but unfortunately, there is
always the possibility.
Very little treatment is
necessary after a root
canal if everything
goes well. A root
canal requires
a dentist to hollow out the top of the tooth in order to access
the roots to clean out the dental
infection in them.
Once the roots are cleaned a material called gutta percha
is used to fill in the hollowed out area. The surrounding tooth
can be sustained by the gums surrounding it.
After a root canal you may experience some tenderness for about a day but there is generally not any significant pain. If the procedure is spread out over the course of several days it's a good idea to avoid chewing with that tooth as much as possible. Your dentist will end up spending time cleaning out space already cleaned out otherwise. In todays fast paced world that means both you and your dentist lose out.
After a root canal it is important to pay attention to any information your dentist gives you and strictly adhere to any given guidelines.
