Invisalign

Invisalign is fast becoming our patients’ favorite way of straightening teeth. Invisalign is a system of invisible braces that has become the ideal way for adults to get straight teeth. There are a surprising number of adult patients who desire to straighten their teeth. Unfortunately, traditional metal braces can be more than a minor nuisance for adults with professional careers and active social lives, where the stigma of braces can have a much bigger impact than when you are a child. Invisalign braces provide an answer to the quandry with removable aligners that are almost completely invisible.

Does Invisalign sound right for you? Invisalign treatment begins with seeing an Invisalign dentist. The dentist will take impressions of both your upper and lower teeth with a special impression material called vinylpolysiloxane. These impressions are then sent to the manufacturing plant in California where a detailed x-ray CAT scan is taken of both of the impressions. The x-ray information is then used to created a highly accurate three dimensional computer image your teeth. You’ll actually be able to see a 3D image of your mouth. With the information they have Invisalign will actually plan out how the teeth will be expanded and the aligner trays will then be custom made specifically for you.

Your Invisalign dentist can make any desired changes to the final results before the aligners are made. This is different than the process used for standard braces. With standard braces brackets are attached to your teeth and an arch wire is used to pull the teeth into the desired positon. Regular check-ups with your dentist are made to alter the path as needed. The computer system can be very precise and everything is planned out before treatment actually begins. Once the final arrangement is finished all of the aligners are created and shipped to your dentist. In some cases composite “buttons” are placed on your teeth to help pull the teeth into the desired position.

Because the Invisalign aligner trays are removable you can clean your teeth the same way you normally do without braces, a major advantage. In many cases, patients only have to return to the dentist office every two months. This is great news and makes the Invisalign treatment method of orthodontic care ideal for busy adult professionals. There’s no emergency orthodontic visits to replace broken off brackets and not special cleaning visits to compensate for the food collection all over metal brackets, bands and wires. In special cases, an Invisalign patient can sometimes return as little as every three months.
