Average Cost of Braces

average cost of braces

The average cost of braces varies depending on what a patient wants done. It's hard for many people to understand that different orthodontic cases are different.  It varies depending on how hard the braces will be and the type of braces the patient chooses. Removable appliances can be cheap, however, they are primarily used with children to expand the dental arches and make room for the adult teeth that later erupt up into the mouth.

The average cost of braces when limited orthodontics is done ranges from about $ 650.00 to $ 3000.00. It's common for many dentists to place bands on the upper first molars and brackets on the front six teeth. This is called a two by six appliance because it utilizes two bands and six brackets. A two by six appliance is most often used to straighten and align the upper four anterior teeth and can be used to prepare these teeth for cosmetic dentistry especially before placing porcelain veneers.

The average cost of braces goes up when a full case is done. Full treatment involves bands on all the upper and lower molars and brackets on all of the other teeth. It usually takes three or four years of monthly treatment to complete a full banded case and the fee varies from $ 4,500.00 to $ 6,500.00 Many patients chose to have white ceramic brackets on the upper six teeth or both the upper and lower six teeth. Using ceramic brackets usually increase the fee by about three to five hundred dollars.

The average cost of braces increases with Invisalign. This is because the aligners are made by the Invisalign company which usually charges the doctor about $ 2,000.00 for its services and appliances. Patients often get upset when they hear the fee because the dentist has to add this charge to the treatment in order to pay for his expenses and the Invisalign cost is charged to the doctor's account at the beginning of treatment, not at the end.
