A Captek dental crown is a beautiful restoration. It has good strength and is durable. With this technique, a thin gold cover is molded over the tooth and porcelain is baked onto the cover/coping to create a life like natural appearing tooth. Because the gold coping cover is precisely molded to the tooth, it allows excellent fit to the tooth. The underlying gold provides a warm glow to the porcelain much like dentin colors natural tooth enamel.
The Captek dental crown can be constructed with a thin gold band at the gum line or with an all porcelain margin. Many traditional porcelain fused to gold restorations show black lines at the gum line. This dark color comes from the metal underneath the porcelain showing through the porcelain. The black line can be quite ugly. Front teeth are often made without a gold margin to eliminate any possibility of show through.
A Captek dental crown can also be used in the construction of a dental bridge up to eighteen millimeter in length. Any length greater than 18 mm can not withstand the biting forces in the mouth and may result in breakage. Captek also has been proven to reduce harmful bacteria and plaque around a restored tooth by as much as 71%.
