Child Tooth

child tooth

Child tooth problems can be just as frustrating as permanent teeth problems. When in your teens, if an accident happens and a tooth falls out, there can be anguish involved. Is it a baby tooth that has not fallen out yet? Or was that an adult tooth that is lost forever? If the lost tooth is prominent in your smile you can be quite concerned over whether or not you will have a permanent gap in an otherwise beautiful smile. If the tooth is further back in the mouth it can cause problems eating. Even for parents this can be difficult because it is often difficult to remember which teeth are permanent which ones aren't.

To prevent problems like the ones just mentioned it is a good idea to find a good family dentist. This dentist can be an invaluable source of information. Child tooth care is just as important as proper dental care and oral hygiene as an adult. Milk teeth are important in that they hold the place for the adult teeth before they come in. It is just as important to keep good care of these teeth as with adult teeth. It is also important to remember that the habits formed as a child can be long lasting and good oral hygiene should be one of these.

A child tooth will come out between the ages of 6 and 33 months. Tooth eruption during this time can be quite painful for a child. Adult teeth begin erupting around the age of 17. The last adult teeth to erupt are the wisdom teeth and the can come out as late as 25. It is generally a good idea to have wisdom tooth extraction performed because they can cause serious orthodontic problems, especially in the case of an impacted wisdom tooth.
