Child Tooth Grinding

child tooth grinding

Child tooth grinding is extremely common and seen everywhere in the whole world. Many parents become concerned when they hear their children making loud grinding noises during the night. If you carefully look at your children's teeth, the baby molar is often flat and short. This causes the child's face to get slightly shorter and can has significant consequences when the tooth enamel loss occurs before the adult teeth erupt into the mouth.

Child tooth grinding is a child's attempt to open the eustachian tubes. The eustachian tube is made of soft red epithelial tissue, much like the type seen in the mouth. When a child has allergies, the epithelial tissue lining the eustachian tube swells and blocks off the tube. The eustachian tube is responsible for air conditioning and balancing the pressure of the inner ear and when it gets blocked, the child has inner ear problems. Strangely, many Ear, Nose and Throat doctors cut a hold through the outside of the ear rather than correcting the real problem, a blocked eustachian tube from allergies.

Child tooth grinding is corrected with both food and airborne allergy treatment and also by having a dentist restore the natural height of the baby tooth molars back to their correct height. This is done by placing white fillings over the tops of the teeth and often without having to use anaesthesia. A wonderful book which reviews non invasive allergy care is the Allergy Self Help Book by Prevention Magazine and written by Sharon Felton.
