Composites

information from the  Atlanta Dental Group PC

A composite filling is another name for the white fillings which most dentists offer today. Composite dental fillings along with their techniques and materials have improved tremendously over the past decade and almost everyone has a composite resin filling in their mouths. Composite bonding is also used as an alternative to traditional silver amalgam fillings. Dental bonding is done in the dental office by a dentist and the results are immediate.

The tooth bonding cost is much lower than having porcelain veneers done. Dental composite is the material used in cosmetic bonding. Dental bonding and cosmetic dentistry are closely related since cosmetic dentistry bonding is an integral part of a cosmetic dentist's toolkit. Tooth bonding is used to change color, shape and contours of poorly postioned teeth.

Amalgam filling materials, also called a silver filling materials, have been used for almost two centuries but this mercury tooth filling technique is coming into question. Patients now have a choice of what type of dental filling is placed in their mouths. Most patients will choose a tooth colored filling over a mercury filling. Although it is not commonly used nowadays, a gold filling is a dental restoration option. A temporary tooth filling can sometimes be used as a cavity filling to see if a sick tooth will need a root canal. If the tooth quiets down with the temporary filling,

Using the correct bonding technique is absolutely necessary for any kind of successful tooth filling. The dental bonding cost tends to be a bit more than the tradtional filling cost because there is much more involved with adhesive bonding. All in all, the use of composite resin restoration is usually a good option for most patients.
