The worst danger of sleep apnea is dying of a heart attack while sleeping. It's serious and it happens. The tongue falls back into the throat and the patient can't breath. The lungs try harder to breath and the heart beats more rapidly to get oxygen to all parts of the body. However, there's no oxygen getting into the lungs and to the body so the heart beats faster until it can't take it anymore. You then have a heart attack. Treating sleep apnea should be an important priority.
Another danger of sleep apnea is getting into a serious and perhaps fatal automobile accident. The night before you continually struggle with a suffocation incident every few minutes. Each time you almost woke up but never fully awakened. Each time your deep REM sleep was interrupted and you never really got any life renewing REM sleep. The next morning you woke up extremely tired and almost fell asleep at breakfast. Driving into work you accidentally fell asleep at the wheel and smashed into another car full of kids with their mom.
A danger of sleep apnea is getting into constant fights and seeming having arguments with everyone. Your mood seem to swing and you're often depressed so many people are just not comfortable around you and you're not comfortable with yourself. The depression can possibly lead to suicide and the personality swings can ruin relationships.
