dental abscess toothache

A dental abscess toothache can be serious and with the recent development of super deadly resistant bacteria, it is especially important that patients seek professional help immediately. Antibiotics are becoming less effective in treating a tooth abscess, so it is very important to treat these things early when they are manageable. In some cases, patients are actually dying as they did before the antibiotic age.

A dental abscess toothache usually starts with the feeling that a particular tooth is high and there may be very little pain. The roots of a tooth are surrounded by a ligament which holds the tooth in the bone. This tooth ligament has a very limited space available so if the tissues in the ligament swell, it raises the tooth up out of it's socket. The tooth then hits prematurely, feels high to the bite and the patient experiences some dental pain. Most patients respond automatically by grinding harder which then causes more inflammation and more swelling and more pain.

As a dental abscess toothache becomes more severe, there is swelling out of the gums that progresses into the muscles and face. The pus that enters the jaw muscles often cramps the muscles up so that the patient can not open wide. This is a serious symptom and this patient must get to an emergency dentist right away.
