Dental Braces

dental braces

Dental braces have changed in recent decades. Dental bonding allows brackets to be smaller because bonding attaches them to the surfaces of the teeth. Since the brackets are smaller, they're less visible and easier to clean. Clear braces have been developed that offer patients many alternatives and we are seeing more adults choosing to straighten their teeth this way. The cost of dental braces can also be stretched out over time to make them more affordable.

Today dental braces use titanium alloy wires that gently move teeth. Orthodontic wires used to be tied onto brackets with soft wire but today elastic ligatures are used. These elastics allow a dental assistant to quickly remove and replace worn orthodontic elastics. Elastics have decreased each dental visit length. The gentle constant forces from titanium wires also allows better arch expansion with less need to remove teeth to make room to correct over crowding.

Dental braces have been revolutionized by Invisalign orthodontics since the aligners can be removed while patients floss and clean their teeth. If you've got a hot date, your invisible braces can be removed for a few hours and immediately replaced when you get home. All porcelain brackets used to be called invisible braces but nowadays, Invisalign braces are more clear and invisible.

Because new technologies have made it easier to do dental braces, many general dentists are providing orthodontic braces. This is a nice especially if a patient is considering having Cosmetic Dentistry after the treatment.
