A dental hygienist is a vital part of most dental offices, especially offices of general dentistry. The hygienist's role is to help with oral hygiene, not only be giving your teeth a good, thorough cleaning, but by teaching you how best to care for your teeth and pointing out problems areas that you should work on. Experienced hygienist can even suggest diet tips to help with your oral health.
A dental hygienist must be licenced by the state in which they work in order to do their job. To do this they must first graduate from an accredited dental hygiene school. To graduate they must pass a written test administered by the American Dental Association's Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations. Along with the written test is a hands-on clinical test that is administered by the state.
In the State of Georgia a Registered Dental Hygienist must first graduate from an accredited dental hygiene school of at least two years length and the pass the National Hygiene Board exam as well as the Southeast Region Dental Boards which are primarily clinical exams using real patients. At the Atlanta Dental Group PC we have a dedicated hygienist who wants to help you better your oral health. We would like for our patients to keep their natural teeth for a whole lifetime.
