dental implant picture

This dental implant picture shows a diagram of an endosseous implant. The word beginning endo- means inside and the ending osseous means bone. Endosseous means inside the bone. It screws into the jaw bone just like the root of a real tooth. The endosseous type is the most common one being used.

The dental implant picture above shows the titanium metal screw in the bone with the other half being a tooth root. This is done to emphasize the fact that this design acts much like a natural tooth. A post extends upward out of the metal and a dental crown attaches to the post. An often forgotten fact is that there is also a zone of gum tissue. Implants can get gum disease with bone loss so it is very important to keep the gums healthy with excellent oral home care and regular professional cleanings.

We hope that this dental implant picture is helpful in giving you an idea of how tooth implants work. They are becoming more and more popular and have many benefits that traditional bridges do not. They can be used to replace one tooth or an entire mouth of teeth and many patients use them to support their dentures.
