          Denture adhesive is really just what the term implies. It is a form of glue that adheres a set of dentures to the mouth. Unlike most glues, that are toxic if swallowed, these adhesives are completely non-toxic. This adhesive can provide a significant increase in both biting force and over all comfort because it keeps the dentures from moving during chewing. It can also create a barrier against food, keeping the food from getting between your gums and your dentures

         Denture adhesive is not required to wear dentures. Partial dentures or soft dentures wearers or those with implant dentures have no need for adhesive. A well designed set of dentures should not require the wearer to use such an adhesive. Of course personal preference accounts for much in today’s society and many people simply prefer to use it. It is important to remember that if your dentures are constantly loose and seem to be causing you discomfort or irritating your gums you should not use adhesive in an attempt to remedy the situation! These are all indicators that it is time for you to get a dentures reline.

If that does not work they way you would like use a little more the next morning, and so on, until you are happy. Sometimes less is more, and it does not take a great deal of adhesive to work. It is also vital to remember that you should always clean your dentures as thoroughly as possible after removing them, especially if you are using adhesive. It can leave behind a residue that can cause problems if not properly cleaned.
