Dentures Pain

dentures pain

The most common reason for dentures pain is that an area under the dentures is being rubbed raw. Most edentulous patients who wear complete dentures think that they do not have to see the dentist again after their teeth are removed. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The mouth changes just like the face changes and some of these changes can be very rapid. The acrylic material which plates are made of does not change while a patient loses the bone underneath. Bone loss causes the old dentures to get loose.

Dentures should be checked every year and relined every two years or they get loose and cause dentures pain. Patients should have a new set of dentures made every five years but they don't. A very common mistake is for denture wearers to insist that an old denture keep being repaired and relined. Would you wear the same pair of pants every day for six or seven or more years. Denture wearers commonly do this.

In some cases, dentures pain can be very serious. Constant rubbing irritates the underlying gum tissues and keeps the gums inflamed and sometimes infected. This constant irritation has been known to cause many problems including oral cancer. Any problem with your plates should be investigated by a dentures dentist immediately. There's just no good reason to wait. In many cases, all that is needed is a dentures reline to help reduce the movement by improving the fit.
