fractured teeth

Fractured teeth can be quite scary, more so than a knocked out tooth for some people. There are a number of possible causes, the most common is as a result of an accident. Unfortunately, accidents happen and the only thing you can do is know what to do if this type of accident occurs. With modern dental technology and procedures it's possible to fix damaged teeth, but you have to see a dentist immediately.

Not all fractured teeth can be fixed and if the tooth cannot be repaired, there are still a number of options for restoring your smile. A cracked tooth can be fixed through a variety of methods depending on the individual case. If a part of the tooth has actually been broken off, you don't necessarily have to find the broken part of the tooth. If tooth bonding is used, the dentist will reshape and create the tooth using dental composite.

Not all fractured teeth break off immediately or even cause toothache pain right away. It is possible that the fracture is slight but it will cause problems eventually. If the problem is caught early enough minimal dental treatment will be needed. If the fracture goes too long without treatment it can cause significant damage to the pulp inside the tooth. If it get to this stage root canal therapy may be required and a dental restoration needed. This is part of the reason why it is important to see your dentist if you think you have a problem and make regular check-ups.
