Gum Infection Antibiotic

information from the  Atlanta Dental Group PC

gum infection antibiotic

The gum infection antibiotic most commonly used is tetracycline or a tetracycline derivative. Most doctors will not prescribe tetracycline because it turns developing teeth yellow. However, once the adult teeth are fully formed, it does no harm. Rather than limiting their prescriptions to adults, doctors make it simple for themselves and never use it.

Tetracycline is not only a gum infection antibiotic, but it can also be used to help with sinus infection toothache. Although most antibiotics are used for seven days, when treating a sinus infection, tetracycline must be used for a ten day course of treatment. Patients should also humidify their sleeping areas and use sea salt spray to moisturize the inside of their noses.

Doxycycline is also a gum infection antibiotic that is a derivative of tetracycline and is often used in treating gingivitis. Other new drugs used for this purpose are also Atridox (doxycycline hyclate), PerioChip (chlorhexidine gluconate), and Arestin (minocycline).
