Immediate Tooth Extraction Dentures

immediate tooth extraction dentures

Immediate tooth extraction dentures are delivered immediately after the patient's teeth are extracted and help the patient avoid being toothless after a number of extractions. Immediate tooth extraction dentures act as bandages by reducing post surgical bleeding and help healing. The tissues swell after oral surgery so that immediate tooth extraction dentures fit well after the surgery. Because the tissues are held in place by the immediate tooth extraction dentures, stitches are usually not needed. Since stitches are made of foreign material that irritates tissue, patients heal well. It is very important to wear the dentures full time for a few days or the surgical swelling will prevent you from being able to wear them until the swelling goes down.

In three to six months the tooth sockets heal and the gums shrink. Unfortunately, immediate tooth extraction dentures become loose and fall out easily after this shrinkage. During the healing period, the loose temporary dentures can only be held in with denture adhesive. After healing, immediate tooth extraction dentures are usually relined to help fit better but most patients choose to make a new set of dentures that look and feel better.

Many patients are unhappy with immediate tooth extraction dentures for a number of reasons. These dentures are not tried in the mouth so that the patient does not get to see how the new smile looks until the dentures are inserted after oral surgery. If there are any problems with the color, shape or the arrangement of the teeth, such as with the smile, there's no going back.

The dentists at the Atlanta Dental Group PC make inexpensive throw away temporary immediate tooth extraction dentures that have the same shape and form of the patient's previous natural teeth. This allows the patient to enjoy the same bite as the natural teeth while wearing the temporary denture. At the end of the healing period, a new set of well made cosmetic dentures are made. Because the patient is wearing temporary immediate tooth extraction dentures, the dentist can take as much time as needed to insure that the new dentures are beautiful.

To construct immediate tooth extraction dentures, the denture impression is taken in the morning and the immediate tooth extraction dentures are made in approximately three hours. Later in the day the teeth are removed and the dentures inserted.
