Implant dentures solve most of the problems that traditional complete dentures give patients. Unfortunately, many health care professionals are not aware, nor interested, in how miserable some patients are with ill fitting loose dentures. It's hard to eat and it's hard to smile when your floppy plate continually slips out. Not only can this be embarassing, it can prevent some patients from getting out and mixing with other people. This can have significant consequences, including depression.
The final design of implant dentures has many options. Two or three separate individual dental implants can be used with separate metal balls attachments which hook to clips in the removable denture. A patient can choose a removable denture that attaches to a bar holding the dental work securely in place. Another option is a fixed non-removable arrangement that screws onto the dental implants and which stays in the mouth.
Implant dentures can be converted from one design to another over time. It's possible to later add additional dental implants and convert from a ball retained arrangement to a bar or even to a fixed denture. Regardless of your design, increased stability reduces sore spots and irritations. You will feel more confident when eating, speaking and smiling. Ultimately it's the patient's choice as to what he or she wants that dictates the final restorations.
