The Invisalign experience begins with taking special impressions using a precise impression material called polyvinylsiloxane. The construction of the Invisalign aligners is made using very accurate recreations of a patient's teeth. The impressions are sent to the Invisalign where a CAT scan is done. A three dimensional computer image of your teeth is made and based upon the instructions of the Invisalign dentist, a computer image of an ideal arrangement is designed. The computer then creates a step by step plan to move your teeth to this ideal arrangement. A series of aligners is then constructed.
The treatment phase of your Invisalign experience begins with being given the aligners and instructions on how to properly wear them. The aligners are changed every two weeks and once a patient becomes familiar with how to use aligners, many patients only have to return for an Invisalign braces visit every two months.
The Invisalign experience is significantly different from traditional braces. There's no metal brackets, bands and wires with Invisalign. The clear aligners can be removed so you can brush and floss your teeth normally whereas regular braces a difficult to clean. With regular braces patients have to return for a monthly visit to tighten the metal braces but in many cases, patients with aligners only need to return every six to eight weeks.
