invisalign tooth

Invisalign tooth movement is all planned before any Invisalign treatment is begun. After taking vinylpolysiloxane impressions of both dental arches, the Invisalign impressions are rushed to the processing plant. Computer Axial Tomographic scans are taken of these impressions and a three dimensional computer image is created of the patient's teeth. This image establishes the exact beginning position.

After consultation with the treating Invisalign dentist, a new beautiful three dimensional image is created that shows the teeth nicely positioned. The orthodontic computer then determines the best way to accomplish the Invisalign tooth movement each individual tooth from its original starting position to the new beautiful arrangement. Aligners are then constructed that move the individual teeth step by step every two weeks.

Invisalign tooth movement is accomplished by changing the aligners every two weeks. Each aligner moves the teeth about a half millimeter during a two week period of wear. An Invisalign patient is given the clear plastic aligners to bring home and change. Although it is not suggested, the aligners can temporarily be removed for special occasions and immediately replaced. Temporary removal of the aligners also allows a patient to efficiently brush and floss the teeth. This is a great advantage of this system.
