Loose Crown

loose crown

Patients always assume that a loose crown can re-cemented and almost never stop and think about what might have caused it to come out. A dental crown is carefully prepared and constructed not to come out. When it does, there's usually an underlying dental problem. Putting the crown back on the tooth may not be the very best thing if there is decay underneath!

The reason for any loose crown should be found. Your natural tooth is much more important than the dental crown and with good dental care, a natural tooth can last a lifetime. Go to the dentist as soon as possible! Trying to save money by doing things on the cheap can result in disaster and the possibility of losing your tooth forever. It is also possible that its a loose tooth that's the cause of the problem.

The best thing to do with a loose crown is keep it safe and not put it back in until you see the dentist. This is often not possible with teeth that are positioned in the smile. In these cases, buying a temporary cement at your local pharmacy is one solution. Denture adhesive can also be used temporarily. However, there is always the possibility of swallowing a crown that has been temporarily glued. Unfortunately, it can go into your lungs and require surgery to be removed.

Swallowing a loose crown is not a good thing. Patients who do this are asked to examine their feces for about a week to find the crown. The soiled crown can be cleaned, cold sterilized and re-cemented if it fits the tooth well. The dentists at the Atlanta Dental Group PC are dedicated to their patients' good health and well being.
