losing baby tooth

It can often be difficult for parents when their child is losing baby tooth. A baby tooth is a non-permanent tooth that forms before the adult, permanent teeth. They are important because they act as place holders for the adult teeth. But just because they are not permanent does not mean that they should not being taken care of. A child who learns good oral hygiene habits at a young age will take better care of their adult teeth. Their role as placeholders is also important in preventing future orthodontic problems.

When losing baby tooth the adult tooth meant to replace it will soon follow. Tooth eruption of the adult teeth tends to occur between the ages of 6 to 13, with those annoying wisdom teeth coming in later between 17 to 25. There are 20 baby teeth and 32 permanent teeth in the human mouth, meaning there are more permanent teeth than there are non-permanent. It is the bicuspids, also known as premolars, that do not come out until adulthood.

When losing baby tooth to accident you do not need to worry too much. These teeth are meant to be lost and losing a tooth to accident isn't too much of a problem. If the child is too young for the adult teeth to start coming in the tooth can be saved. Do not pick up the tooth by the root. Rinse it with milk and place in in a container of milk. See your family dentist immediately. It is important to have a dentist who can provide emergency dental care.
