Multiple Tooth Extractions

multiple tooth extractions

Multiple tooth extractions are usually done for patients who have periodontal disease or extensive dental decay. In severe cases of periodontal disease, the teeth become loose because of the extensive bone loss surrounding the teeth. The gums stay inflamed and infected and continually trap food. This is not healthy. Removing hopeless teeth is a good thing because chronic dental infections can be the source of heart attacks, strokes and many other medical problems.

Same day dentures can be delivered after multiple tooth extractions. This helps the patient avoid the embarrassment of having to walk around toothless. These same day dentures usually have to be relined in a few months since the tissues shrink after healing. The shrinkage makes the immediate dentures loose and ill fitting. Same day temporary dentures are an ever better way to approach this shrinkage problem. The temporary dentures are only worn for the healing period and while the final cosmetic dentures are made after the healing period. This allows the dentist to spend the necessary time to design and create a beautiful set of dentures without guessing or rushing.

Multiple tooth extractions can be a very good idea when someone has to have a number of teeth removed. This avoids lots of additional visits to the dental office and cuts down on the number of times the patient has to worry about having tooth extraction surgery performed. Patients eligible for this procedure must have a good medical history with very few complicating factors.
