Clove - Syzygium aromaticum (Caryophyllus aromaticus,
Eugenia caryophyllata)
Clove oil is a natural remedy for toothache. The oil of cloves is a strong antibacterial, a powerful antiseptic, an analgesic and a weak anaesthetic when applied to decayed teeth. It is equally useful in digestive problems and muscular disorders. When dried, cloves carry the essential oil of eugenol, a powerful antiseptic with preservative action. It can be placed on a small piece of cotton and stuck into a tooth cavity to give temporary toothache relief. This can be effective for 60 to 90 minutes. A new cotton ball soaked with clove oil can replace the old one at this time.
Toothache Plant
- Spilanthes Oleracea
Spilanthes
oleracea is a short spreading perennial plant with toothed leaves
and a cute gold gumball-like inflorescence. It has been called
the toothache plant because it is a natural remedy for toothache. It's also called Brazil cress and Para cress.
It has no odor but when eaten, it has an interesting flavor that
develops slowly from pleasant and salty to a strong, tickling-burning
pungency that leaves a numb feeling in the mouth. Spilanthes oleracea
is perennial grown with full sun to part shade in a moist well
drained soil. The plant reaches 10 to 12 inches. It has been used
for toothaches.
Peppermint - Mentha
Piperita
Mentha Piperita is hardy perennial, which can grow 2 to 3 feet tall, including the flowering spikes. The leaves are a moss green color. It grows pale, lilac flowers in the summer around late July if not clipped down. The mint plant has a strong aroma of peppermint. It is also used for medicinal and flavoring purposes. This plant will spread underground by growing root shoots in early spring and the plants can become prolific. Because of its anti-inflammatory compounds, peppermint has a soothing ability and is a natural remedy for toothache pain. Drinking 5 grams of fresh peppermint boiled in a cup of water with a pinch of salt is believed to relieve toothaches and headaches.
