natural tooth

You don't want to have to replace a natural tooth. Dental restorations that are used to replace a tooth or restore functionality of the tooth can be expensive and can be extremely expensive over a long term period. Every type of dental restorations has its advantages and disadvantages, some more so than others. There is even a chance that the restoration can fail, causing damage to the real teeth as well. Your natural teeth are designed and work so well that you don't want to replace them. Good oral hygiene can save you time, money and hassle in the long run.

A natural tooth is very strong. The roots of the tooth anchor into the bone, but different teeth have different number of roots depending on how much force is placed on them. The teeth towards the back of your mouth tend to have more root structure than those at the front. The enamel is the strong white part of your tooth that protects the living structure inside called the pulp. What is odd about teeth is that a tooth can actually live on without the pulp, but if the pulp becomes infected you can have a great deal of tooth pain.

Dental restorations are made to mimic a natural tooth. A dental crown is used to replace the crown of real tooth. Root canal therapy hollows out the tooth, removing the pulp. A crown is placed on top of the tooth and it restores functionality to the tooth. A dental bridge is a false tooth anchored by two really crowns on real teeth. This is one way of replacing a missing tooth. Unfortunately it has its disadvantages. It does not work like a real tooth. Instead of strong roots, the crown is anchored by other crowns that stress the other real teeth. Dental implants work more like real teeth but are expensive.
