After all of a patient's teeth are removed, one day dentures are immediately inserted in the mouth and avoid the patient from being toothless after complete extractions. They serve as bandages by decreasing post surgical bleeding and by doing this also help the healing process. The gum tissues swell after oral surgery so that the dentures fit well right after the dental surgery. Because the tissues are held together by the dentures, stitches are normally not needed. Since stitches are made of foreign material that irritates tissue, patients heal well. It is extremely important to wear the dentures full time for a few days or the post surgical swelling will prevent you from being able to wear them until this swelling goes down.
Unfortunately, one day dentures become loose and slip out easily after shrinkage in three to six months since the tooth sockets heal and the gums shrink. During the healing period, the loose temporary dentures are held in the mouth with denture adhesive. After healing, they can be relined to help fit better but most patients choose to make a new set of dentures that look and feel better.
Many patients are very unhappy with their one day dentures because these dentures are not as well made as permanent dentures. They are not tried in the mouth before the surgery so the patient never sees how the new smile looks until the dentures are placed after the oral surgery. If there are any problems with the color, shape or the arrangement of the teeth, such as with the smile, there's no going back.
Our dentists make inexpensive throw away temporary dentures that have the shape and form of the previous natural teeth. This allows the patient to enjoy the same bite as the natural teeth while wearing the denture. At the end of the healing period, a new set of well made permanent dentures are made. Because the patient is wearing temporary dentures , the dentist can take the time needed for the new dentures to be beautiful while the patient inspects each step of the denture construction. To make one day dentures, the denture impression is taken in the morning and the prosthesis is made in about 3 hours. Later in the day the teeth are removed and the dentures inserted.
