A receding
gum treatment depends
on the severity of the situation. If the problem is only minor,
treatment can consist of just special attention to oral hygiene.
With more serious problems a dental procedure known as a gum graft may be necessary. The main purpose
of this procedure is to prevent further loss of gum tissue that
is vital in preventing tooth loss. This procedure even has an
added benefit, the end result leaves the gums looking beautiful.
If you are having a problem with a receding gum line it is best to see a dentist as soon
as possible.
Receding gum treatment always starts with proper oral hygiene.
Simply brushing and flossing does not always prevent gum disease. Proper gum care is essential, especially
when it comes to gum
disease treatment.
You must brush and floss properly, so as not to hurt the gums
and teeth, while also cleaning them properly. It is best to use
a medium bristle brush and clean in short light strokes when cleaning
around the gum line. Overly vigorous brushing could damage the
gums more than not brushing could.
When a receding gum treatment falls to surgery a gum graft is generally needed. There are several types of gum graft procedures. The most common is called a "Free Gingival Graft". This procedure uses a small portion of gum tissue from the roof of the mouth to replace the gum tissue lost around the teeth. The gum tissue from the roof of the mouth is removed and then sutured into the area needed. The results of a gum graft are generally not immediate. The new tissue will grow and blend into the graft area over the course of a few weeks.
