reconstructive dentistry

Reconstructive dentistry requires the use of all the disciplines of dentistry to restore a patient's original form, function, speech, aesthetics and health. This includes the areas of Cosmetic Dentistry, General Dentistry and often Implant Dentistry. The first phase is a complete dental examination, careful diagnosis and personal treatment plan. It's a good rule that the more planning done, the better the results. Once a plan is agreed upon, dental treatment can begin.

Reconstructive dentistry begins with establishing a good foundation to place all of the subsequent dental work on. A house without a good foundation is shaky. Great attention is paid to replacing missing teeth with dental implants, bone is replaced or redesigned with bone grafting and gum tissue is restored using gum graft techniques. The entire process gets the teeth and implants ready for the final dental restorations. This phase also involves removing all the underlying decay and performing any root canals that are necessary.

An essential part of Reconstructive dentistry is creating a beautiful smile that naturally integrates with a patient's face. This is art. Most cases have carefully designed temporaries to provide a trial run to evaluate the aesthetics and function of the planned restorations. Once the patient approves the temporaries and is comfortable with the new bite, the final restorations can be created.
