If you have a toothache, finding a remedy for toothache pain is going to be high on the list of your priorities. A severe toothache can make daily life miserable but there is a more important reason to remedy the pain. A toothache is your body's way of saying that something is wrong. Most of the problems are related to oral health but not all are, it could have nothing to do with your mouth. It could be a cavity or an abscessed tooth or any number of other causes and if left untreated your oral health will continue to decline. Before you can fix the pain you must diagnose the cause of the pain. That means a visit to the dentists office for a dental examination.
A temporary remedy for toothache can be provided by over the counter painkillers and toothache home remedy but these are often just masking the symptoms and not addressing the cause of the toothache. Unfortunately, the cause of your toothache could be any number of different health problems. A piece of food caught in your teeth can cause irritation. A cavity is one of the most common causes but it could just as easily be an abscess, gum disease, sinus toothache or even heart problems. If the problem is merely a bit of food caught in your teeth simply brushing and flossing to remove the particle could provide relief. Try this first, but if that does not help you need to go to the dentist because it is likely the cause is more serious.
Finding a real remedy for toothache depends on properly diagnosing the cause. A tooth that is merely overly sensitive to hot or cold will require different treatment than a tooth that is riddled with cavities. If you have gum disease it can takes some time to properly resolve the problem so that your tooth stops hurting. Sometimes root canal therapy will need if the extent of the damage is severe enough that nothing else can be done to save the tooth. If the tooth is a dead tooth it is past saving and the only thing that can be done is tooth extraction.
