Scalloped Tongue

information from the  Atlanta Dental Group PC

scalloped tongue

A scalloped tongue has grooves on both sides. The grooves are impressions in the tongue made from pressing tightly into the teeth in an attempt to support an unstable jaw joint.

These grooves are not normal and are often a sign of a TMJ or hypothyroid problem which should be investigated by a knowledgeable TMJ dentist. The grooves often disappear after an appropriate TMJ appliance is made and correctly worn.

If you are worried about having a scalloped tongue and would like to consult with Atlanta TMJ Dentist, Dr. Mark Allan Padolsky, please make an appointment by calling 404-874-7428.
