Single Tooth Implant

          A single tooth implant is meant to replace one missing tooth. It uses a titanium dental implant in place of a root, an implant post and a dental implant crown. The crown can often look so much like a regular tooth that it may be difficult to determine which crown is the artificial one and which it natural. The replacement tooth will function and chew much like a real tooth. It is important to always replace a missing tooth since the absence of one tooth can eventually cause significant and harmful changes in the bite from undesired shifting of the surrounding teeth.

          Getting a single tooth implant is a fairly straight forward process. It begins with a diagnosis done by an implant dentist. In some cases, the implant dentist may decide that bone augmentation is needed to help secure the dental implants. A titanium dental implant is placed in the bone and allowed to heal. An implant post is next screwed into the implant and a crown is placed on the implant post. In some cases several teeth may be required to be replaced. If the missing teeth are in a row, a dental implant bridge is an option rather than replacing each tooth individually.

          It is difficult to place a single tooth implant in the front of the mouth where it can be seen when the patient smiles. The crown will look like a real tooth, but the problem lies in hiding the point where the implant post and the crown meet. In some cases the restoration can look completely unnatural.
