sinus gum infection

A sinus gum infection often causes dental pain and bad breath along with bleeding gums. These conditions make you feel miserable and often occur at the same time. When you get run down and sick, many underlying problems get worse.

The stage is set for a sinus gum infection when a patient has sinusitis and the sinus tooth pain feels like a toothache because of the close location of the tooth roots to the floor of the sinus. There are two sinuses located in the upper jaw just above the roots of the upper back teeth. Nasal congestion can block the sinuses and prevent drainage of mucus into the nose and mouth. This blockage causes mucus in the sinus to build up and thicken. This thick warm stagnant mucous provides an excellent and rich food source for bacteria to grow.

A sinus gum infection often happens when a the patient's immune system is challenged. An underlying gum infection gets worse when someone is sick. The bacteria that cause the periodontal infection are usually not the same type of bacteria causing the sinusitis. Most people over age 35 have a problem with gum disease and so it's almost always there waiting to get worse.
