sinus infection tooth ache

A sinus infection tooth ache can occur when the roots of the upper back teeth, call the maxillary molars, extend into the maxillary sinus cavity. Your teeth hurt and it feels like you have a tooth problem. The best dental x-ray to take is a periapical x-ray that also shows the sinus area above the tooth roots. When you go to the dentist and a peri-apical x-ray is taken of the teeth that hurt, there's no tooth cavities. However, you know that your teeth hurt and that something is wrong.

When a patient has a sinus infection tooth ache, all of the teeth in the area generally hurt. The first thing that most dentists do is a percussion test. This is when the dentist gently taps on the tops of the teeth to see which teeth hurt. In most cases, when there is a dental problem, only one tooth will hurt when tapped upon. If there are sinus problems, all of the teeth hurt.

During a sinus infection, the sinus fills up with liquid and causes the sinus cavity to appear white and murky in a peri-apical x-ray. A normal sinus looks black in an x-ray so the white color is a sign to the dentist that there is a sinus problem. In most cases, placing a patient on tetracycline 500 mg for ten days will eliminate the infection and sinus infection tooth ache. If the pain does not resolve in ten days, a patient should see an experienced Ear, Nose and Throat physician to determine why the problem persists.

Many people have chronic sinus problems and have repeating sinus infection tooth ache pain. Some home techniques can be helpful in avoiding this pain. Most shopping stores and pharmacies sell nasal sea salt spray. By squirting some of this spray into your nose several times a day, you keep the nasal tissues moist and this allows the sinus to easily drain into the nose. Keeping the tub adjacent to your bedroom full of water allows for enough moisture to enter the bedroom air and this help prevent the nose from drying out during the night.
