A temporary filling is sometimes used in Dentistry in order to fix problems as a hold over until a permanent dental filling can be done. They are not meant to last for long periods of time but, if done correctly, should last as long as the dentist needs. They are often used in root canal therapy when the dentists needs more than one appointment in order to properly finish the work. This is especially common with teeth that have multiple roots or are particularly difficult.

If the filling comes loose you will quickly notice sensitivity to anything touching the tooth. If this happens let your dentist know immediately and make a dental visit soon. Of course, you do not want to wait too long to return to your dentist to have proper work completed.

       Cimpat, a pre-mixed filling paste, is a common temporary filling used by dentists. Once applied into the cavity Cimpat hardens due to mouth temperature and moisture. It's so great because it expands slightly when it's set, and it this helps prevent leaking.  It's also easy to apply and adheres to a tooth better than many temporaries.
