Temporary Tooth Filling

Root Canal Therapy

A temporary tooth filling is what dentists use in order to fix problems as a hold over until complete work can be done. They are not meant to last for long periods of time but, if done correctly, can last for several months, though most are only used for a few weeks. They are often used in root canal therapy when the dentists needs more than one appointment in order to properly finish the work. This is especially common with teeth that have multiple or complex roots. With modern dental technology many root canal cases can be handled in just one appointment.

Cimpat, a pre-mixed filling paste, is a common temporary tooth filling used by dentists. Once applied into the cavity Cimpat hardens due to mouth temperature and moisture. It proves to be quite useful because it expands slightly when it's set, and this helps prevent leaking.  It's also easy to apply and adheres to a tooth better than many temporary fillings.  All of these qualities make it the use of Cimpat standard practice.

A temporary tooth filling can also be used in certain cases where your dentist chooses to give the tooth a short time to heal. They are also used in emergency situations. If the filling does come loose you will quickly notice an extreme sensitivity to anything touching the tooth. If this happens let your dentist know immediately. Oil of cloves can be used to help relieve the pain until the tooth can be looked at properly.
