titanium dental implant

A titanium dental implant is usually made out of an alloy of this metal along with several other metals blended together. The most common alloy used has a ratio of 90 parts titanium, 6 parts aluminum and 4 parts vanadium. The name of the metal comes from ancient Greek mythology. The Titans were the first sons of the earth and predated Zeus and the Olympian gods. This metal is the ninth most abundant element in the earth's crust and is also found in meteorites and in the sun. It is found in the ash of coal, in plants and even in the human body.

A titanium dental implant is physiologically inert. It also is strong, resists acids and has excellent corrosion resistance. Bone cells love the metal. As a matter of fact, bone grows onto its surface and become almost impossible to remove. Titanium is a lustrous white metal and easily used to design and fabricate dental implants.

In most cases, you will be getting a titanium dental implant when you have your surgery. It is then left for about six months so that the bone quietly grows onto the surface and permanently attaches to the metal. At the end of six months, the top of the titanium fixture is uncovered and a specially designed post is inserted. A dental implant crown is then constructed that precisely fits this post.

You can have more than one titanium dental implant to construct a bridge or to replace several missing teeth. Atlanta Implant Dentist, Dr. Mark Allan Padolsky primarily uses the Nobel/Biocare and IMTEC systems using this metal. In addition to surgery, he is also can design, create and place the final crown and bridge work.
