Tooth Bleaching Gel

tooth bleaching gel

A tooth bleaching gel is used to whiten teeth. There are many different formulas and methods of using a gel to whiten teeth but almost all of them use some form of hydrogen peroxide to whiten the teeth. Some gels work simply by being placed on the teeth and given time to be absorbed into the teeth. Other whitening gels need to be activated to work, normally by a special lamp.

The tooth bleaching gel used by Zoom! and Zoom 2 needs to be activated by a Zoom lamp in order to work. The Zoom bleaching gel can only be used at an office by a professional. The original Zoom system used a gel that left teeth sensitive, even after a fluoride treatment. Zoom 2 has remedied the problem. It even works faster than the old gel. It takes about 45 minutes to dramatically whiten a patients teeth.

A tooth bleaching gel used at home is quite different, because a lamp cannot be used in order to activate the gel. Most home tooth whitening systems use whitening trays to whiten teeth. The bleaching gel is placed in the trays and the tray is placed on the teeth overnight. The Zoom weekender kit uses a dual formula syringe that keeps two different formulas from mixing until placed in the tray. This activates the formula and whitens teeth faster than many systems.
