Tooth Braces

tooth braces

The area of tooth braces has incredibly changed over the past ten years or so. Dental bonding has allowed orthodontic brackets to be smaller since this bonding technique is excellent at gluing the brackets to the teeth. Since the brackets are smaller, they are prettier and easier to clean.

New titanium metal alloy wires that gently and quickly move teeth are used today with tooth braces. Orthodontic wires used to be tied onto brackets with soft wire but nowadays, smaller elastic bands, called elastic ligatures, are used. This allows an orthodontic assistant to quickly remove and replace worn out elastics and have significantly decreased the time needed for an orthodontic visit. The gentle constant forces from the titanium wires also allows better arch expansion with less need to remove teeth to make room to correct crowding.

All porcelain brackets used to be called clear braces but today, Invisalign braces is more clear and invisible. Invisalign orthodontics has revolutionized tooth braces since they can be removed for short periods of time while patients floss and clean their teeth. If you've got a hot date, Invisalign can be removed for a few hours and immediately replaced when you get home.

Because new technologies have made it easier to do tooth braces, many more general dentists are also providing orthodontic care. This is a great thing, especially if a patient is considering having Cosmetic Dentistry done after the orthodontic treatment. Dr. Mark Allan Padolsky has been doing orthodontics since 1982 and would be more than happy to speak with you to talk about straightening your teeth.
