tooth colored filling

Tooth colored filling material is wonderful! Patients not longer have to have an ugly mercury filling that turns black. When well done, white composite restorations look just like real teeth and no one has to know that you have had any dental work. The material is called composite resin and it's used to fill cavities, close the gaps between teeth, repair fractures, in dental bonding and even to make whole composite crowns. Probably the best known use is with dental bonding.

Tooth colored filling material has revolutionized Cosmetic Dentistry and allowed dentists to make immediate changes to improve their patients' smiles. It was the original material used to do dental bonding in the 1980s. Porcelain veneers then became very popular and they do look fantastic. However, new much improved composites have been developed that look very much like real teeth so many dentists are getting more and more interested in doing dental bonding again.

Tooth colored filling restorations do not have to cut away as much good tooth as the old silver mercury restorations. The old metal restorations needed to cut areas into the tooth to mechanically lock them into the tooth. This prevented the old metal restorations from falling out. Composite restorations do not have to cut additional tooth away for retention since they bond to the tooth. It's kind of like using super glue since they bond in instead of lock in.

As the area of dental materials undergoes a revolution, so have tooth colored filling materials. New techniques and materials allow a layering of different white filling materials to create a more lifelike appearance. Translucent materials are now available to give a more natural look to the edges of teeth and tints are available for mimic small natural looking variations inside teeth. Dr. Mark Allan Padolsky, an Atlanta Cosmetic Dentist, loves creating a new beautiful smile for each patient and would be happy to meet with you to discuss your cosmetic options.
