tooth extraction care

Good tooth extraction care helps reduce the follow up complications related to oral surgery. The most important thing is to take excellent care of yourself after your surgery. Remember, your body has to heal after the surgery and if you get run down, you won't heal and you will certainly have more pain and problems. Carefully read the Post Operative Instruction Sheet provided to you and follow the directions exactly as directed.

Part of excellent tooth extraction care is to rest and keep comfortable. It is almost always best to stay home and not work for a few days after tooth extraction procedure. It is not worth possibly running yourself down and later getting a dental infection. Your immune system works best when you are rested and not stressed. Try and get back to normal as fast as your body allows but do not push yourself.

Eating well is an important part of tooth extraction care. The body will use the food you eat to heal the area that you had tooth extraction in. Bone has to be filled in and gum tissues have grow to cover the whole area that the tooth was removed from. Take a multivitamin too. Drink and keep hydrated. Because the oral surgery was in the mouth many patients do not want to eat or drink. This really creates problems.

Taking medications to prevent problems is a very important step in tooth extraction care. Our dental practice believes in prescribing a dental antibiotic and pain medication for all surgeries.
