Tooth Extraction Pain

information from the  Atlanta Dental Group PC

tooth extraction pain

In most cases, tooth extraction pain can be reduced or eliminated by good preoperative instructions, careful tooth extraction technique and excellent post operative instructions. The dentists at the Atlanta Dental Group PC do not believe that the risks of putting someone completely under general anaesthesia are worth it especially since these procedures tend to have more difficult post operative problems. Fortunately, the majority of tooth extraction procedures take less than a half hour and most patients do very well.

An important part of reducing tooth extraction pain is taking your medications correctly. Dental pain medications work best in preventing pain when they are taken before the anaesthesia wears off. It is harder for a narcotic analgesic, like Tylenol Number 3, to work once you have already started hurting. Get your medications before, or right after, your oral surgery and take the narcotic right away. Of course, driving an automobile is a problem whenever someone takes narcotics so be sure to make arrangements. You can alternate using over the counter pain relievers with the prescription medication to increase the effect.

Tooth extraction pain is worse when a dental extraction patient over does it after their procedure. Patients should respect their bodies and not go right back to work after an oral surgery procedure. Rest and relax. Keep your priorities in place and take care of yourself. You can always find another job but you can't find another body. Don't abuse yourself! The body has to heal and it needs food and rest. Like mother says, eat!

All of the dentists at the Atlanta Dental Group PC are dedicated to their patients' good health and well being. You are welcome to join their family of patients. Dr. Mark Allan Padolsky is a dentist in Atlanta who practices with the group and performs most of the oral surgery for the practice, including wisdom tooth extraction and molar extraction. Of course, it hurts him when any of his patients experience tooth extraction pain so he does everything he can to help reduce post operative discomforts. You are welcome to schedule a consultation with Dr. P by calling 404-874-7428.
