Tooth Extraction Problem

tooth extraction problem

A tooth extraction problem can be very aggravating and very painful. The most common difficulty is dental pain from the surgery site. Dentists usually prescribe a narcotic analgesic, such as Tylenol Number 3, and antibiotic after oral surgery. The surgical trauma to the jaw bone and gums can stress the area so that it becomes painful and gets infected. Years ago dentists were taught to remove a lot of gum tissue from the surgical area to see everything during the surgery. However, we know today that the blood that nourishes the surgery site come from the gums, not from inside the jaw bone.

Most dentists use small and conservative surgical flaps in order to maintain the blood supply to the healing site. Dental infections can become a serious tooth extraction problem. Super resistant bacteria exist today that can not be easily killed using traditional antibiotics. It is best to avoid the difficulties before they occur by treating infected teeth and gums before the dental surgery is done. However, many patients insist on being treated immediately and will not wait.

Another tooth extraction problem is continued tooth extraction bleeding. However, this is rare and when it does occur, it occurs with anemic teenagers or in patients with high blood pressure. Tight stitches along with gelfoam significantly reduces bleeding after the tooth extraction procedure. At times, the gel foam is coated with a clotting agent to help form a natural plug.
