Tooth Gap

tooth gap

Most Americans want beautiful white straight teeth without a tooth gap. A cosmetic dentist can solve this problem many different ways with the final choice being up to the patient. The solution used depends on many factors including the width and height of the gap, the root support of the adjacent teeth and of course, the amount of money the patient is willing to invest in his or her smile.

Limited orthodontics can be used to pull the two teeth together to close the tooth gap. With limited orthodontics, all of the teeth are not banded and bracketed. Many dentists use a two by six appliance that bands the two first molars and places orthodontic brackets on all six of the front teeth. Normally it takes about six months to close the spaces. This can completely solve the problem or other cosmetic dental techniques can also be used.

Bonding, porcelain veneers, or a combination of both can be placed onto the two adjacent teeth to close a tooth gap. These procedures make it possible to immediately close the spaces without a lot of time being involved. In some cases, dental crowns are preferred, however, this is a more aggressive method. If the space is really large, a single tooth removable appliance, often called a flipper, can be made to fill the open space.
